My must have piece of gear is my tent, my trusty Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1, which I hiked all of the AT, and most of the PCT with — truly my home away from home! Thanks for the contest fun 🙂

  2. We love our jetboil. A good hot cup of coffee in the morning is the best thing to start the day with.

  3. Abigail Olson

My favorite piece of gear is my MSR Pocket Rocket. I love how small and compact it is and yet it can boil water in only a few minutes. It allows me to have coffee without using much of my fuel,

  4. As a necessity, I pack my Katadyn Hiker microfilter. A more frivolous item I like to pack is my eno hammock. It’s nice to get the feet off the ground after a long hike!

  5. This will be my first big hike but the item I am planning on enjoying the most is headlamp with a cozy sleeping bag and my book!

  6. I have to have my hammock. I slim weight other places to afford weight and space for my hammock. It makes everything worth it at the end of the day to sleep up off the ground.

  7. Alyce Poalillo

My 2 required pieces of gear are a good hat with lots of coverage and a good pair of comfortable sturdy shoes.

  8. I have not yet (still gathering courage and gear) ventured into overnighters, but for day hikes, I must have my darn tough socks, my camelbak backpack and black cherry cliff bloks.

    1. Ten Essentials! Good for you! Can’t even tell you how many hikers I meet that don’t even carry a map!

  9. I tend to get really cold, especially at night, so having a 10* Halo Sleeping bag changed my life. I was previously using a 30* bag and freezing, even in the summer.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

I definitely wouldn’t hit a trail without my super comfy waterproof hiking boots and my camera.

  11. My little coffee system: fresh ground beans that I grind just before I leave for the trip, a small Melita brewing filter with paper filter inside, little Mini Moo packets for creamer and Sugar in the Raw packets. And of course my Sawyer mini for the water and my Etekcity mini camping stove to boil the water. Perfect way to get me going!
